Nitrous spark plugs are designed very simply to not over heat. These is achieved a few ways. You must replace some of the more simpler parts when using certain N20 systems, or even an after market turbo system.
These spark plugs need to be engineered a different way. The reason is simple, when using any N2o kit, or even after market turbo kit, the engine gets a lot hotter than the engine is designed for. This can induce engine damage over time, or in a few seconds. Stock spark plugs can only handle so much heat in the combustion chamber. When you are using a shot of N2o or an after market turbo, the engine core temp gets even higher, and can cause some serious damage if you are not careful. This overheating causes the spark plug ground strap and center electrode to turn into a "glow plug". This condition causes air and fuel in the combustion chamber to pre-ignite and detonate, causing engine damage.
There are a few designer plugs out there that can handle just what your looking for. Some call the 1 step colder spark plugs, or 2 step colder spark plugs. Those are some of the more common names for them today. A company like ZEX calls their plugs "Hyperformance" spark plugs. They state that their spark plugs have an optimal heat range and ground strap design that maximizes the safety and performance of your n2o or forced induction engine.
- After market spark plugs save your engines life
- Spark plugs that eliminate pre-detonation
- Spark plugs that handle after market n20 kits and turbo kits
- Spark plugs that handle higher engine temps
With such safety features that these plugs offer for more after market products, its amazing that some people just over look certain things. The things that make your car as safe as you need it to be. These aren't a save your life safe, these are a save your engine safe. There is no reason to end up spending another 2-3 thousand dollars on a new engine because you didn't take the proper pre-cautions in the first place. 1 step colder spark plugs is just a smart way to go.
